An indie developer desk with a MacBook, notebook and ceramic cup
Asoly lives in the macOS menu bar. One measurement per keyword per day, stored on your own Mac.

Indie hacking runs on leverage: the things you keep doing have to be cheap in attention, not just in euros. Checking App Store rankings by hand fails that test — it costs ten minutes a morning, it produces no history, and everybody stops after two weeks. Asoly turns the check into something that happens without you: one measurement per keyword per day, written to a local database on your Mac, with a notification when a position crosses a line worth knowing about.

Principles of High-ROI Indie ASO

€9.99/mo

Priced like a tool, not a platform

Free covers one app and five keywords, with no card and no time limit. Pro is 9.99 € a month or 89 € a year, with 14 days free at checkout.

Quiet by default

Costs you no attention

It runs in the menu bar, checks once a day, and stays quiet unless a keyword crosses the top 10 or top 50, moves five places or more inside the top 50, drops out of the top 100, or ranks for the first time.

Local-first

Nothing to sign up for

No Asoly account, no API key, no server. Your apps, keywords and history are a local database on your Mac, and CSV export is one click.

Long-tail keywords are where a solo app can actually win

Broad terms like "fitness" or "budget" are contested by apps with acquisition budgets. Specific phrases — "minimalist habit tracker", "offline travel itinerary" — have fewer competitors and visitors who already know what they want.

Asoly builds candidates for those phrases from your own title and description, from Apple’s autocomplete, and from the titles of the apps ranking above you, then scores each one for difficulty using the ratings, title matches and age of the current top ten.

It also shows a popularity estimate from autocomplete order, labelled as an estimate. Apple publishes no search volume, so any tool claiming an exact number for the App Store is modelling one.

What it will not do for you

It will not track while your Mac is off. There is no server, which is the same reason there is no account and no seat pricing. Days it could not check stay as gaps in the chart rather than being interpolated.

It will not write your metadata. Editing title, subtitle and keyword field across localisations through App Store Connect is planned, and is not in the current build.

It will not watch your competitors’ ranks or their metadata changes. You can see who is above you for a keyword today; tracking them over time is on the roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why not just search on my phone?

Your own search results are shaped by your history and your region, and a manual search leaves no record. Asoly asks each storefront directly, without personalisation, and keeps every measurement so you can see what your last update changed.

Can I track several apps?

The free tier tracks one app with five keywords. Pro has no fixed limit on apps or keywords, with a soft cap of 250 active keyword-country pairs so a full run stays under about four minutes and stays polite to Apple’s endpoints.

Does it run on Apple Silicon?

Yes, on Apple Silicon and Intel. Asoly needs macOS 15 or later.

Stop checking the store by hand

Asoly is out. Download it directly from getasoly.com, no account needed. The free tier covers one app and five keywords and stays free; it needs macOS 15.0 or later.
